Stephen M. Thomsen
Stephen began his investment industry career in 2007 and joined Stifel in 2018 after spending eight years at Merrill Lynch.
In addition to specializing in personalized retirement planning strategies, Stephen has extensive experience working with corporate and retirement assets of non-profit and for-profit companies in the DC area. His institutional clients include local university systems, trade associations, law firms, government contractors, and various 501(c)(3) organizations.
Stephen earned a B.S. in Finance from Virginia Tech. He also attained the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc., which identifies those individuals who have met the experience requirements of the CFP Board, have successfully completed financial planning coursework, and have passed the CFP® Certification Examination.
In his free time, Stephen enjoys spending time and traveling with his family, golfing, snowboarding, playing chess, reading, and volunteering. Stephen married his wife, Rafaela, in 2011, and they live in Falls Church, Virginia, with their two sons, Christian and Carter. Stephen has personally visited more than 25 countries and has lived in Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand. He is also a big supporter of Virginia Tech football and all Washington sports teams.
